Storage

Knitwear is best stored flat in dry and well ventilated areas. If possible, please store your knitwear with moth balls, lavender, and/or cedarwood, to prevent moths and other insects from damaging your knitwear.

Cleaning

All knitted items are best washed by hand in cold/cool water using dedicated wool wash. Due to the nature of wool and other animal based yarns, they will only need cleaning once a year unless very obviously dirty. You will be able to air them between wears to keep them fresh.

When an item has been washed, please air dry your items as flat as possible. This is also the best time to reshape them if they need reshaping.

Wool wash can be found in most local supermarkets and dedicated yarn stores. We recommend brands like Eucalan and SOAK where no rinsing is necessary. Otherwise, Ecover and Method provide great sustainable options. You can also use soap nuts or horse chestnuts to create a natural gentle alternative.

Piling/Bobbles & lint

If your knitted item is bobbling or piling, please use a cashmere comb or dedicated shearer to remove the piles/bobbles. Lint can usually be removed with a gentle brush or using a lint roller.

Please note: piling and bobbles are a natural occurrence with all items made from plant and animal sourced yarn. This does not detract from the quality of the yarn.

Mending

Each order is shipped with small samples of the original yarn for future repairs or personalisations. Otherwise, mending yarns are readily available at local haberdasheries, craft stores, or local yarn stores. Our favourite brand at Atelier Elpidia is Laine St. Pierre: Embroidery & Darning Wool/Thread.

If you have lost the small samples of yarn for mending included with your original order, you can request more by purchasing through our online store or emailing us at info@atelierelpidia.co.uk.

Repair Service

In order to take responsibility for our products, Atelier Elpidia offers a mending service for anything made by us. Please see the table below for our repair rates.

 

To request a repair, please email us before purchasing the service through our online store. Postage costs from customer to Atelier Elpidia are to be covered by the customer. We are happy to cover the cost of postage for the repaired item to customer within the UK. For international customers, we are unable to cover shipping costs. Payment for international customers return costs will be collected at the same time as payment taken for the repair.
